The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports that lip augmentation using lip fillers has gone up by 50 percent in the last five years. What Are Lip Fillers Made From?
Most lip fillers today are made up of Hyaluronic Acid (HA). HA is a sugar naturally found in the human body that temporarily adds definition and volume to lips. It is able to hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Once HA is injected, it slowly breaks down over a period of a few months. What Do Lip Fillers Feel Like?

The good news is that if a lip augmentation is done correctly by a professional, it is usually painless. Most doctors will use a numbing cream and include a shot of lidocaine in the injection. The needle will initially feel like a bee sting, but it shouldn’t be anything too uncomfortable.
Most of the time, when a lip augmentation goes wrong it’s due to it being done by someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing, or when unsanitized syringes are used. This is why it so important to research your doctor and your clinic before allowing them to perform a procedure.
