Microneedling vs. Other Skin Treatments

Microneedling vs IPL

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses small needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. In turn, this stimulates the body’s natural healing process, boosting elastin and collagen. Microneedling is best for treating uneven skin texture and tone, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and large pores. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) delivers broad-spectrum light to the skin, which is absorbed by pigments at a cellular level. IPL is best for treating sun damage, hyperpigmentation, redness, and uneven skin texture.

Microneedling vs. Clear + Brilliant

While Clear + Brilliant uses light energy to stimulate collagen production, microneedling works by stimulating collagen production through micro-wounds. Both treatments can treat a wide range of concerns, such as improving skin texture, fine lines, and early signs of aging. However, while Clear + Brilliant focuses on superficial to mid layers of skin, microneedling can treat the deeper layers of the skin, depending on the depth of the needle used during treatment.

Target Your Concerns with Microneedling

Microneedling is a versatile skin treatment that addresses a range of concerns by stimulating the skin’s natural healing process. Here are the main concerns microneedling is used to treat:

Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Microneedling can address fine lines and wrinkles, including crow’s feet, smile lines, forehead wrinkles, and other signs of aging. By boosting elastin and collagen production, this treatment can help turn back the clock.

Acne Scars

By breaking down scar tissue and promoting collagen formation, microneedling can help to improve the appearance of most types of acne scars.

Hyperpigmentation

Microneedling can help to reduce skin discoloration through cellular turnover. It can address an array of hyperpigmentation issues, such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, melasma, and more.

Skin Texture and Tone

Microneedling smooths uneven skin texture and promotes a more even skin tone for a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance.

Enlarged Pores

Increased collagen production around pores can make them appear smaller and less noticeable. This is a great benefit for those bothered by large pores, which can make the skin appear uneven.

What Microneedling Actually Does

Microneedling is a fantastic option for those who wish to rejuvenate the skin and combat common signs of aging without prolonged downtime. To begin treatment, the skin will be thoroughly cleansed, and a topical numbing cream may be applied to minimize discomfort. Your provider will then use a microneedling pen to create controlled micro-injuries in the treatment area, stimulating collagen production and cell renewal. Following microneedling, certain serums or growth factors can also be applied for boosted absorption and skin health.

Microneedling FAQs at Beverly Hills Rejuvenation Center

  • What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a great way to help your skin heal faster and more effectively. The damage from these tiny holes will stimulate the production of collagen, which keeps you looking young with firm facial muscles!

  • How does Microneedling work?

Microneedling is a safe and effective procedure for your skin. Your healthcare provider will use thin needles to make tiny holes in the top layer of your epidermis. This helps stimulate its healing process so you can have firmer-looking results with less time spent experiencing discomfort or pain from this treatment!

  • How much does Microneedling cost?

A single microneedling treatment can cost anywhere between $100 and $700. Most microneedling clients need two to five treatments (spaced four to six weeks apart) to see their ideal results.

  • How long does Microneedling last?

The results last about three months on average, but it all depends on how long new collagen will stay fresh in your system and what degree or types of concerns you have.

  • Is Microneedling better than Botox?

Microneedling is an excellent alternative to Botox because it addresses more than just wrinkles and lines. It’s also less invasive, with fewer side effects that won’t interfere with your daily life like paralyzing injections do!

  • Is one Microneedling session enough?

The full benefits of this treatment can only be realized with at least 4 to 6 sessions. This gives your skin enough time for progress and renewal and the creation of new collagen that lasts forever! If you have deeper scarring or other hard-to-treat issues like these, it may require up to eight treatments.

  • Are Microneedling results permanent?

Microneedling may not be a permanent solution for those looking to improve their skin because it constantly changes, and each person’s body has different Reactance levels.

  • What does my face look like after Microneedling?

Patients can expect their skin to look red immediately after a microneedling treatment. As part of the body’s natural wound-healing response, the increased blood flow causes this vibrant coloration in some patients. Still, it doesn’t affect others with different genes or whose melanin production rate does not match up properly with where they donate energy from within themselves- a topic we’ll cover more next time!

  • Who should not get Microneedling?

    Microneedling Contraindications:

    • Suspicious Lesions- A practitioner must diagnose these before beginning treatment
    • Discontinue autoimmune therapies and retinoid products 24 hours before beginning treatment
    • Do not treat overactive acne, rosacea, or other inflammatory conditions
    • Do not treat over-open wounds
    • Do not use the device inside the orbital rim, such as eyelids, or inside the vermillion border of the lips
    • Consider prophylactic treatments for those clients prone to viral breakouts
    • Treatments are not to be administered for at least six months after the use of Accutane
    • Keloid scars
    • Active eczema
    • Psoriasis and other chronic conditions
    • History of actinic or solar keratosis
    • History of herpes simplex infections
    • History of diabetes
    • The presence of raised moles in the area to be treated

    Absolute Contraindications:

    • Scleroderma, collagen or vascular diseases, and cardiac abnormalities
    • Blood clotting conditions
    • Active bacterial or fungal infections
    • Immunosuppression
    • It is not recommended for women who are pregnant or nursing
  • What should I tell my doctor before getting Microneedling?

Before you book your first microneedling appointment, you should discuss a few things with your doctor. First, you must let them know if you have any active skin infections or rashes. You’ll also want to mention any allergies and medications that might thin your blood. It’s also important to inform your doctor of any history of keloid scarring. While microneedling is generally considered safe, it’s always best to err on the side of caution and make sure your doctor is aware of any potential risks. Doing so can ensure you’ll get the most out of your treatment and achieve the best possible results.

  • What should I do before my Microneedling treatment?

Before the procedure, consider discussing ways to prepare for your appointment with the doctor. You may need to stop taking certain medications, such as ibuprofen and those for acne treatment (like Accutane), well before the procedure.

It’s also recommended that you avoid using agents that may increase your skin’s sensitivity. Your doctor may recommend stopping topical retinoids and exfoliants before your microneedling appointment.

    • makeup
    • sweating
