Skin Resurfacing with IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)
Skin Resurfacing in Houston – How Does it Work?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), which is the form of skin resurfacing we do at our Houston medical spa, works by delivering a series of gentle pulses of visible light onto the surface of your skin – strong enough to heat and kill abnormal skin cells. It has been used successfully to eliminate redness, broken capillaries, brown spots, sun damage, large pores, fine lines, and rosacea and melasma conditions. BHRC Houston uses an advanced IPL technology called BBL – Broad Band Light . This state of the art technology can actually change the expression of genes associated with aging by restoring the genetic aging pattern of the skin. BBL treatments have minimal pain, side effects, and recovery time. It is very popular treatment for reducing the signs of aging and discoloration in the face, neck, upper chest and hands.
What are the Benefits of Skin Resurfacing?
Skin resurfacing is a non-surgical treatment, which means there is minimal downtime. You are able to resume your normal life immediately after the procedure. The only thing you’ll experience is redness for a couple of days, which is proof the process is working.
Another benefit of skin resurfacing is it can target treatment areas without affecting surrounding areas of the skin. You’re only susceptible to minor irritation at the treatment area.
Lastly, IPL skin therapy is virtually painless. An overwhelming majority of patients explain the pain as no more than the feeling of a rubber band snapping against the skin. One of the reasons we are a top med spa for skin resurfacing in Houston is we use a state of the art Intense Pulsed Light / IPL machine.
What Can I Expect from a Skin Resurfacing Procedure?
The first thing we do is have you come to our Houston medical spa for an in-depth skin evaluation. We make sure you have the optimal skin type for this IPL treatment, and we don’t try to sell you the service if you aren’t a good candidate. Next, we tell you to avoid the following for up to 2 weeks before the procedure:
- Tanning beds
- Direct sunlight
- Collagen injections
- Chemical peels
- Creams that contain vitamin A or glycolic acid
- Drugs that increase the risk of bleeding.
Then comes the actual procedure. We start by rubbing a cool gel onto the treatment area, which helps with the small amount of pain from the heating of the skin. Then we slowly move back and forth over the treatment area with the treatment wand until the entire area has been covered.
The process takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on the area being treated, and you’ll need a couple of sessions to get the best results.
