Skincare Tips to Help Clear Acne and Keep it Gone

It’s hard to look in the mirror sometimes when you don’t really like what’s looking back. Acne can play a large role in being insecure about your appearance. We get it. So many people have to deal with stubborn acne that just won’t go away. And if you do get it to disappear, the scars left behind are even harder to fade. We want to help you feel beautiful when you look in that mirror and take back the confidence that acne steals from you. Here are our five best tips for clearing acne and keeping it gone.

Tip #1: Wash Your Face

This is probably the most obvious tip and the easiest one to integrate into your routine. If you have acne, it’s likely that the oils and dirt on your face are to blame. You can get rid of that not-so-fresh feeling by washing your face regularly (at least twice a day for most people). We recommend washing your face when you wake up in the morning and before bed. An easy way to add it into your routine is to just wash your face in the shower with a cleanser meant specifically for your face.

Tip #2: Exfoliation

Exfoliation is really the key when it comes to fading acne scars, but it also goes hand-in-hand with washing your face. If you’re someone who has acne, exfoliate your skin at least once a week. A great way to do this is by using a face scrub in the shower, but we recommend a chemical exfoliant instead of a physical one. The ingredients to look for are AHA and BHA (best for fading scars), salicylic acid (best for active acne) and glycolic acid (best for black/whiteheads). Exfoliation is one way to stay ahead of your acne by keeping your pores clean of any dirt and oil, so that no new acne can develop.

Tip #3: Hydration

Keeping your skin hydrated is surprisingly very important when battling acne. Dry skin can also be a cause of acne, due to your sebaceous glands working overtime to keep your skin hydrated. The bonus is that hydrating your face can help fade acne scars. Skincare with hyaluronic acid is one way to keep skin hydrated, but there are many more options out there. Even though everyone says this, drinking water will also help bring more hydration to your skin. It is most important to moisturize after exfoliating your skin. You should incorporate a facial moisturizer or cream at the end of your skincare routine, to make sure that the moisture is able to set in and do its job.

Tip #4: Serums

There are many different serums out there to help control oil, help with hyperpigmentation or even help fade acne scars. A few of our favorites include niacinamide, vitamin C and retinol. Make sure you are using ones with the right ingredients for your skin type. Some serums cannot be combined together, while others can work better in combination.

Tip #5: Microneedling

Microneedling is a form of micro-injury in which the skin is poked with tiny needles to help bring more collagen and elastin to your skin. This is a procedure that can help fade acne and prevent more acne. Microneedling is most beneficial when done in combination with a PRP, platelet rich plasma, treatment to promote further healing. In this process, the esthetician will draw blood and then extract the PRP, responsible for healing, from it. The mixture will be injected into the tiny injuries made by the microneedling. This will help promote the healing of your scars and reduce their appearance. For best results, microneedling is recommended for those who are post-acne or have gone through an Accutane treatment. It may be worth trying this treatment out to see if it can help improve the quality of your skin.

Skincare does not have to be scary. By incorporating these few tips and maybe adding a microneedling session to your routine, you can have clear skin. It’s time you take your confidence back and keep that acne gone. Skincare is not something to stress about, but rather something that can help you feel beautiful in your own body.
